From the Editor - Palin’s Popularity
July 9, 2007
What does Gov. Palin’s popularity mean for Alaskans? It’s means we’re ecstatic at finally having a leader that listens to what we say and we’re feeling that we actually have a voice in our government again. It means we approve overwhelmingly of her governing style and the job she’s done thus far. And most importantly it shows a renewed faith in a system so many felt was broken and corrupt beyond repair.
I realize the things I sometimes want aren’t necessarily what’s best because I haven’t the knowledge or expertise to do the job. But this is where good leadership shines - leading people down an uncomfortable path that is best for us all rather than herding us blindly down a tunnel with no map, destination or discussion. And I also realize Sarah will make mistakes - I don’t have any grand delusions of infallibility, but I do trust her. I trust she will maintain her transparency and we will never doubt where we stand and that she will stay true to her word. I believe her popularity has roots with her honesty and integrity and that is something that is needed in this state more now than even a gas pipeline. And I have no doubts that with Sarah, we can have it all.
