State will sue over polar bear listing
May 22, 2008
Newsminer:
The state of Alaska will sue to challenge the recent listing of polar bears as a threatened species, Gov. Sarah Palin announced Wednesday. She and other Alaska elected officials fear a listing will cripple oil and gas development in prime polar bear habitat off the state’s northern and northwestern coasts. Palin argued that there is not enough evidence to support a listing. Polar bears are well-managed and their population has dramatically increased over 30 years as a result of conservation, she said.
Extradition OK’d for mom charged with murder

Governor Palin signed an extradition warrant allowing Morgan Hite to stand trial in Colorado where she could face the death penalty. Morgan is charged with child abuse and first-degree murder of her newborn son. The approval isn’t surprising but it does once again make me wonder how anyone can call them self pro-life and and be a supporter of the death penalty. State sanctioned murder in a broken system is ok, but my reproductive freedom is not.
When abortion may be an acceptable choice

National Post:
The Alaska gov who has been named as a possible running mate for John McCain is making headlines for her personal choice not to end her pregnancy.
Gov. Sarah Palin has just revealed her month-old baby was born with Down syndrome, a genetic condtions that impedes a child’s physical, intellectual and language development.
Warned early on through testing, Palin chose to wait until after delivering the 6lb 2 oz baby boy before speaking out. With four children at home already, a child with Down syndrome would present serious challenges, but she said in a statement she felt “privileged that God would entrust us with this gift.”
It’s clear where she stands. She is praised by the “pro life” movement, with activists asking God to “give America more women like her.”

The Press has this review of Kaylene Johnson’s book, “Sarah”. I too would have enjoyed a little more into Sarah’s religious beliefs and how they affect her day to day life. Read the review here.
Alaska Governor Palin Unveils Energy Plan
May 15, 2008
Alaska Report:
Conservation and long-term solutions remain key focus - From a State of Alaska press release: Governor Sarah Palin today unveiled a short-term energy plan to address the skyrocketing costs of energy in Alaska. The package includes two parts – returning surplus funds through a grant to all electric utilities to reduce ratepayer bills and an Energy Debit Card for the next 12 months.
“Alaskans are feeling the pinch of high energy costs,” Governor Palin said. “The state treasury is swelling, while family checkbooks are evaporating. The right thing to do is to return surplus monies to the resource owners through energy relief. Instead of going to Washington , D.C. for relief, Alaskans should be independent enough to take care of this energy problem ourselves.”
