TransCanada announcement in May

The Legislature will convene in special session June 3 to consider the future of the natural gas pipeline.

Gov. Palin said her administration will release its findings on the sole gas line applicant, TransCanada, during the week of May 19.

Once the administration releases its findings on TransCanada, the law says the Legislature has 60 days to approve the gas license, if that’s what the administration recommends.

So it could be mid-summer before the selection process in the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act has played out.

Special session on gas line

“Gov. Sarah Palin announced this morning she will hold a special legislative session in Juneau starting on June 3 to deal with the natural gas pipeline.

Palin also announced that her administration will present its decision on the TransCanada pipeline proposal to lawmakers the week of May 19. If the administration decides to go ahead with the TransCanada plan, the announcement in May will begin the 60-day review period allowed to lawmakers under the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act.”

TransCanada’s app rejected

February 3, 2008

State legislators have been advised that TransCanada’s application for a state gas pipeline license under the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act does not qualify under the law because of conditions the Canadian pipeline company placed in its proposal. A legal opinion by attorneys under contract to the Legislature conflicts with the position taken by Gov. Sarah Palin that TransCanada’s application does qualify.
